Privacy Policy
How we handle the personal data you share with us, the cookies this site uses, and the rights you have over your information.

Who we are
This website (balkansummit.org) is operated by Management Development Associates (“MDA”, “we”, “us”), the Programme Office for the Balkan Summit, based in Prishtina, Kosovo. MDA is the data controller responsible for the personal data described in this policy. For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, contact us at [email protected].
What data we collect
We collect personal data in two ways:
- Information you give us. When you register your interest in Balkan Summit 2027, we collect your name, your email address and the area you are interested in (attending, speaking, sponsorship or partnership). If you write to us, we keep the message and your contact details. Accounts created for Balkan Summit 2026 hold the details entered in the 2026 forms, such as name, email address, phone number, organisation, role and country.
- Information collected automatically (only with your consent). If you accept analytics and marketing cookies, we use Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage data — pages viewed, navigation paths, approximate location (country/city), device and browser type, and referring source. We also run a Meta (Facebook) advertising pixel on our home page and our registration page only, which tells Meta that a visit happened so we can measure our advertising and show follow-up ads on Facebook and Instagram. We do not send your form answers, name or email to Meta.
How we use your data
- To send you the programme and announcements for Balkan Summit 2027 if you registered your interest, and to respond to your messages.
- To manage the 2026 accounts and records of people who took part in Balkan Summit 2026.
- To understand how the website is used so we can improve it (analytics — consent-based only).
- To maintain the security and integrity of the site (e.g. spam and abuse prevention).
Legal basis
We process form submissions on the basis of taking steps at your request and our legitimate interest in organising the event. We process analytics data only on the basis of your consent, which you can give or withdraw at any time.
Cookies
This site uses a small number of cookies and similar storage:
- Essential. A single browser entry that remembers your cookie choice so we don’t ask again. If you log in, we also store a session token to keep you signed in. These are required for the site to work and are not used for tracking.
- Analytics (optional). Google Analytics sets cookies to measure usage. These load only after you click “Accept” on the cookie banner. If you decline, none are set.
- Marketing (optional). The Meta (Facebook) pixel sets cookies to measure our ad campaigns and to build retargeting audiences. It runs on the home page and the registration page only, and like analytics it loads only after you click “Accept”. If you decline, nothing is set.
You can change your choice at any time: .
Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run the summit and this website, under appropriate safeguards:
- Supabase — secure database hosting for form submissions.
- SendGrid — sending transactional emails related to your request.
- Cloudflare — website hosting/delivery and bot protection (Turnstile).
- Google Analytics — usage analytics, only if you consent.
- Meta Platforms (Facebook/Instagram) — advertising measurement and retargeting on the home and registration pages, only if you consent.
Some of these providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States, under standard contractual safeguards.
How long we keep it
We keep the interest list until the Balkan Summit 2027 follow-up is complete, or until you ask us to remove you. We keep 2026 registration, sponsorship and press data for as long as necessary to follow up on the 2026 summit, and as required for our records, after which it is deleted or anonymised. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics’ standard retention settings, and advertising data according to Meta’s.
Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal data, to object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent for analytics at any time. To make a request, email [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date above reflects the most recent version.
